Get support with employer accreditation

Compulsory employer accreditation

Are you a New Zealand employer looking to hire or retain people from overseas? You must be accredited with Immigration New Zealand, and our team can help.

The main purpose of the accreditation requirement is to reduce migrant exploitation. Accreditation is stage 1 of the 3-stage Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) process.

There are three types of accreditation – standard, high-volume and triangular – depending on how many people you employ on the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) at any given time.

By gaining Accreditation status, you meet the legal criteria to employ people on visas and hire people from overseas. Employers must be accredited to employ people on any visa type (not just AEWV).

If you are not yet accredited, our licensed advisers can guide you through the process and ensure your application meets INZ’s requirements.

We have been helping New Zealand employers manage every aspect of the visa and immigration process for over a decade, including the accreditation process long before it became compulsory.

Contact us today and we will talk you through the necessary steps and simplify the process.

Compliance checks

Once accredited, New Zealand employers must meet ongoing obligations set out by Immigration New Zealand under the accreditation agreement.

Compliance checks and verification activities may be conducted at any time after accreditation is granted, or during the renewal process.

Checks can include paper-based assessments, site visits, interviews with employees, and verification of information with third parties as well as publicly available sources.

INZ has confirmed that random accreditation compliance checks are now a permanent feature of the system. These checks are already underway.

They can occur at any time, and failure to meet obligations can lead to suspension or revocation of accreditation, with serious consequences for your ability to employ migrant workers.

Settlement obligations

As an accredited employer you must provide information to help your workers on Accredited Employer Work Visas (AEWV) settle into their jobs and life in New Zealand. The information you provide must cover essential aspects of living and working in New Zealand.

All settlement activities must be completed within one month of an employee’s start date as an AEWV holder. This is a mandatory legal obligation under your accreditation agreement.

We have been supporting New Zealand businesses with settlement requirements since 2015. Our team has developed a purpose-built portal to help employers deliver settlement information to employees easily and effectively.
