Supporting your worker through the Residency process
You’ve worked hard to find and secure the right people for your business, but how do you keep them?
With AEWVs (Accredited Employer Work Visas) only allowing your workers to stay for 3 to 5 years, you might be wondering, “What’s next?”
The good news is, there’s a clear pathway to residency, and we’re here to help you navigate it.
The first step is to request an eligibility assessment for your workers. This will give you a clear understanding of whether they meets the residency criteria and help map out the next steps.
Along the way, your worker may need to meet English language testing and training requirements. Don’t worry – we’ve got that covered too. Our team can assist with English language testing and any required training, ensuring a smooth path to residency.
Helping employers to retain skilled workers for the long term and keep their business running smoothly, is what our team does best. We’re here to help and happy to talk so don’t hesitate to seek help or ask us any questions.

Understanding sector-based residence pathways
New Zealand’s immigration settings no longer use sector agreements for wage exemptions (from 10 March 2025). However, sector-based residence pathways remain for specific roles, notably the Care Workforce Work to Residence pathway, and a Transport Work to Residence pathway with limits for new entrants.
These pathways can help you offer longer-term stability to eligible workers.
Care workforce
Many roles in the care workforce have a defined Work to Residence route. Eligible workers can apply for residence after 24 months of qualifying New Zealand work, provided all other criteria are met.
Transport
A Transport Work to Residence pathway exists, but note that bus and truck drivers who applied for an AEWV on or after 7 April 2024 are not eligible for that pathway.
What this means for employers
By leveraging the care workforce and (where eligible) transport residence pathways, you can build loyalty and retain critical skills. We can assess each role against current INZ rules and map the most suitable residency pathway or alternative (e.g., Green List) for your workforce.
Act Now: retain your workforce
With settings shifting and competition for skills rising, ensure your roles meet the latest criteria and your staff are on the strongest pathway available.
We’ll confirm eligibility, evidence, and timing, then guide you through each step to retain your team.
