Location: Queenstown, New Zealand
Industry: Hospitality
Client: Millbrook Resort
Programme: International Hospitality Internship Programme
Setting the scene
When Millbrook Resort — one of New Zealand’s most iconic luxury golf and lifestyle destinations — signed on for their first intake of hospitality interns, the resort took on five international interns through our International Hospitality Internship Programme. From the get go, Millbrook embraced the opportunity to support emerging global talent in the hospitality sector.
It was no small undertaking. Millbrook committed not only to hosting these interns but also to securing off-site accommodation to ensure they had a safe and supportive environment in which to live. By seconding a nearby property, the resort created a cohesive space where all five interns could live together — helping them settle into their new life in Queenstown.
Settling in and stepping up
With Millbrook’s proactive approach and our ongoing support, the interns quickly found their feet. Now well into the second half of their placements, they’ve become part of the resort’s fabric: delivering exceptional service, learning from industry professionals, and contributing to the world-class guest experience Millbrook is known for.
A clear career path
When we sat down to discuss the next round of interns for Millbrook – they surprised us with something special: two of their current interns have been offered sponsorship to return to New Zealand following graduation. Having impressed the team with their professionalism, work ethic, and potential, these two students will finish their hospitality degrees and return to New Zealand on Accredited Employer Work Visas to launch their international careers at Millbrook.
More than a placement — It’s a pathway
This is exactly why we do what we do.
Working In’s Interns Programme goes beyond filling staffing gaps. It creates real career pathways for young professionals, giving them hands-on Kiwi experience and a foot in the door with global employers.
For businesses, it means reliable, motivated talent and greater workforce certainty. And when interns return home, they carry with them not just skills but a lasting connection to New Zealand and its hospitality industry.
